The Parables // Weeds Among the Wheat
Wheat is a prominent crop throughout scripture. Nehemiah’s family worked in the wheat field. Boaz and Ruth found each other in the wheat. The major and minor prophets discuss wheat. So Jesus wasn’t going to not use it as a lesson. He’s again using what the people around him would know so that they could understand his message.
Read: Matthew 13:24-30
Notes:
- Darnel // type weed commonly found in wheat and looks similar to the crop
- Master allows both the weeds and the wheat to grow until harvest time. The weeds will be picked first and then the wheat. The weeds will be disposed of/burned!
- God allows all to grow but in the end, the harvest won’t be pleasant for all.
- See Jesus’ own explanation Matthew 13:36-43
Discuss with Kids :
- Why did the farmer leave the weeds to grow until harvest time? Because he didn’t want to disturb the wheat crop’s roots when pulling up the weeds.
- Why does God allow the people of the enemy to live within the people of God?
