In the previous interactions with Jesus, they still didn’t recognize him. He was explaining the prophecies to them and they were ignorant of his identity. It wasn’t until after that they realize. Hindsight they were probably kicking themselves a little.

Notes:
- When they get to their destination, they had to ask Jesus to stay.
- After saying a prayer and breaking bread, the men see! They are finally aware of this being Jesus.
- But then he’s gone. He was with them just as long as was needed for them to learn, pray together, and recognize the resurrection was real.
- They quickly go and tell the others.
